DES MOINES, Iowa (January 29, 2008) – Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity will be helping families find a “Place to Plant Hope” with the funds they raise by auctioning off designer potting sheds at this year’s Des Moines Home & Garden Show.
There will be over 10 potting sheds, designed by local architects, students and artists, displayed throughout the show. Visitors can bid on a potting shed while at the show or bid at home by visiting www.gdmhabitat.org.
“This potting shed auction supports Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity’s commitment to build houses and change lives for the better. A Place to Plant Hope raises public awareness about the need for decent, affordable housing for low-income working families,” said Sally Hink, director of development for Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity.
All proceeds from the potting shed auction will support Habitat’s commitment to build homes and a brighter future for the families it serves.
More information about Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity will be available at its show booth, located in the upper level of Vets Auditorium, number 2547.
About Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity
Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry that partners with the community to provide decent affordable housing for low income families. Faith communities, businesses and individuals provide the financial support and volunteer labor to build houses for qualified families who in turn contribute their own “sweat equity.” The homes are purchased by the families for the value of the materials without charge for the volunteer labor or allowance for profit. Habitat provides zero-interest financing for the home purchases. Home owner mortgage payments recycle to support the construction of additional homes. For more information, visit www.gdmhabitat.org.
