2009 Show Features Everything from Celebrity Designers to Exquisite Gardens

DES MOINES, Iowa (Jan. 29, 2009) – The Des Moines Home & Garden Show arrives at Iowa Events Center Feb. 12-15, 2009.

This year, more than ever, consumers will find money-saving ideas and the lowest prices on home improvement products and services. Interior design professionals, landscaping experts, home remodeling experts and others will share the latest tips and trends for the home and garden while more than 500 companies showcase their unique products and services.

Show Features

o Learn from the experts at the Lifestyle Stage. Shane Tallant, host of HGTV’s Designed to Sell will discuss designing within a budget to improve a home’s appeal. Joshua Foss from HGTV’s hit series Design Star explains how to be green without sacrificing style. Marcia Lyon, syndicated newspaper columnist of Creating Spaces, will help consumers find cost effective solutions to various remodeling dilemmas. Lori Vande Krol, co-founder and owner of Life Made Simple, LLC., will explain how to create and maintain order in all areas of life to save time, energy and money. Barb Watson, the Nebraska and Iowa Regional owner/ trainer of Interiors by Decorating Den, will present ‘Magical Design Makeovers & 2009 Trends” during her daily presentations at the show. And last, but not least, Veronica Lorson Fowler, garden writer and author of several garden books, will share her “20-Must Have Perennials for Iowa Gardens” and other gardening tips.

o Kick the winter blues and explore a variety of our Exquisite Gardens, in full bloom, designed and developed by local landscapers and garden centers. Be captivated by each of the beautiful gardens and see new garden designs and trends with unique botanicals only at the Des Moines Home & Garden Show.

o Tour the 2009 Showcase Home to see the trends and new designs. The fully manufactured home by Century Homes will feature new products, home furnishings and appliances, as well as landscaping by Bob Lenc Landscaping, Inc. & Lawn Care.

o Check out a new era in log cabin living. Gastineau’s Log Cabins 2 Go (LC2GO) is a new concept using full log wall construction in a 400 square foot park model housing unit. Not to be confused with a park model with log siding on the exterior, LC2GO is the only full log oak park model available in the world.

o Experience Ty Style! Check out this special area which features the newest and coolest products selected by Ty Pennington, host and design team leader of the popular ABC series Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. (NOTE: Ty Pennington is the official spokesperson for Marketplace Events, the largest organizer of consumer remodeling, home decor and gardening shows in North America – including the Des Moines Home & Garden Show. While he will not be attending the show in 2009, Ty has provided great tips and products that will be revealed on-site and online at our Web site.)

o Your favorite TV and radio personalities are ready for this year’s Celebrity Rooms, where six local media personalities have been matched with the area’s top designers to create spectacular model rooms. Vote for a favorite and the winning celebrity will donate $500 to a favorite charity.

o Central Iowa Canstruction® will showcase their Campbell’s soup can sculpture as a preview to their upcoming competition. Look for the 5-feet high soup can made entirely of canned food at the event entrance to Veteran’s Auditorium. The public is encouraged to bring canned food items to the show for donation to the Food Bank of Iowa.

o Not-for-profit, Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity and KCWI-23 are teaming together to present ‘Home is where the ART is’, an art exhibit and sale which will feature a variety of fine art, children’s pieces and local celebrity pieces centered on the artists’ different interpretations of home. Proceeds will benefit Habitat.

o Watch as ten pre-selected contestants dig for a diamond and other spectacular gemstone prizes during the Diamond Dig held on Valentine’s Day at the Des Moines Home & Garden Show. Christopher’s Fine Jewelry will provide one diamond jewelry item ($1,000 retail value) and nine gemstones for semi-finalists along with $25 gift certificates towards mounting the gemstones.

o Sample Iowa-made wines at the Wine Village, showcasing nearly a dozen wineries from across Iowa. Visitors are encouraged to taste the unique, delicious wines and are able to purchase bottles to take home. Listen to free live music in the Wine Village on Saturday, Feb. 14 from 6-9 p.m.

o Visit the Potting Shed Garden Store for gardening tools, equipment, books and decorations and All Iowa Store, offering Iowa-made products, for food and handcrafted goods to books and artwork.

o Experience a world of green living in the Green Zone, where local experts will show you how to turn your home into an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly place to live.

o The Morning Hawk with Andy and Lindsay think “The Hawk” needs a House. Listeners are asked to design and build a bird house to be displayed at the Des Moines Home & Garden Show with help from the Timber Pine Nursery. The public will vote for their favorite Hawk House at the show and via 97.3thehawk.com. A lucky winner will receive a trip to “Space” with Sarah Buxton in Cape Canaveral, Fla. including a private acoustic concert and the Kennedy Space Center’s Ultimate Space Experience! Runners up will get Hawk Prize Packs. Andy and Lindsay will announce the winner on Monday, Feb. 16. Hawk House entries can be delivered to 97.3 The Hawk by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Sunday, Feb. 15 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Admission
Admission is $10 for adults ($7 when purchased online) and $4 for children ages 7-12. Children six and under are admitted free. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.desmoineshomeandgardenshow.com or
