DES MOINES, Iowa (Jan. 29, 2009) – Not-for-profit, Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity and KCWI-23 are teaming together to present ‘Home is where the ART is’, an art exhibit and sale with all proceeds benefiting Habitat’s commitment to build homes and a brighter future for the families it serves.
Presented at this year’s Des Moines Home & Garden Show, held Feb.12-15, 2009 at Iowa Events Center, the art exhibit and sale will feature a variety of fine art, children’s pieces and local celebrity pieces centered on the artists’ different interpretations of home.
“The ‘Home is where the ART is’ exhibit supports our commitment to build houses and change lives for the better,” said Sally Hink, director of development for Habitat. “Our goal is to raise awareness about the need for decent, affordable housing for low-income working families and all proceeds from the sale will help 22 families to achieve their dream of homeownership in 2009.”
“For 31 years, the Des Moines Home & Garden Show has been such a community event and partnering with Habitat is a natural fit for us in that it allows us to work together and give back to Greater Des Moines and its area homeowners,” said Brent Keller, show manager for the Des Moines Home & Garden Show.
Any remaining pieces will be available for purchase via the Web site at www.gdmhabitat.org following conclusion of the Des Moines Home & Garden Show.
Show hours are as follows: Thursday, Feb. 12, 11 a.m.–9 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 13, 11 a.m.–9:30 p.m.; Saturday, Feb. 14, 10 a.m.–9:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Feb. 15, 10 a.m.–6 p.m.
Additional information about Habitat will be available at its show booth, located in the upper level of Vets Auditorium, number 2539.
About Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity
Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity is an ecumenical Christian housing ministry that partners with the community to provide decent affordable housing for low income families. Faith communities, businesses and individuals provide the financial support and volunteer labor to build houses for qualified families who in turn contribute their own “sweat equity.” The homes are purchased by the families for the value of the materials without charge for the volunteer labor or allowance for profit. Habitat provides zero-interest financing for the home purchases. Home owner mortgage payments recycle to support the construction of additional homes. For more information, visit www.gdmhabitat.org.
